My name is Will Moore, and I'm running to represent you.
Bringing positivity and a collaborative approach to serving our community deeply motivates my candidacy. I am invested and passionate about the future growth of Oak Bay!
Moore for Oak Bay!
I love Oak Bay! I love our green spaces. I love our parks, especially Carnarvon Park, Uplands Park,
and Anderson (Blueberry) Hill, to name a few.
I love the multiple entry points to the ocean. I love the walkability of our community. I love how easy it is to cycle throughout Oak Bay. I love our recreation centres; everything we need is right here in Oak Bay.
I have been fortunate enough to raise my three boys here in Oak Bay, the traditional lands of the Lekwungen-speaking people, the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, in which we live, learn, and experience all of its beauty,
surrounded by fantastic people in our community.
Who is Will Moore?
I am deeply rooted in this community, born and raised in Victoria, living in Oak Bay for 35+ years. I work at
Oak Bay High School as a Counsellor and Teacher, and also work in the community as a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Mental Performance Consultant Apprentice. My wife, Jessie Moore, is a Vice-Principal in the Greater Victoria School District.
We are a busy family of five-we have 3 boys who attend Monterey and Oak Bay High. Our house and neighbourhood are loud with the sounds of children playing, teens coming and going, and dogs barking; it's the best noise! I’ve spent many years playing sports in this community, especially at Carnarvon Park, where I played soccer and baseball for a lot of my teenage years. I eventually went on to play for the Vikes Men’s Soccer Team.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in History and Education from UVic and began teaching soon after. I began my coaching career at Oak Bay High, which has turned into 20+ years of coaching high school sport, along with coaching for the last 10+ years for Bays United and Carnarvon Baseball. (I currently coach two teams at Bays United, along with coaching Soccer and Rugby at Oak Bay High.
What’s magnificent is that my sons, who play for Bays United and The Castaway Wanderers Rugby Club, get to participate in all of these activities in our community! A lot of experiences that I’ve had in my youth have come full circle, which I know is something many of you have experienced living in Oak Bay.
Community Leadership
A unified and collaborative council is essential for efficient governance. I am dedicated to fostering an environment of listening, learning, and collaboration among council members.
When council operates fluidly, informed decisions are made more timely, directly benefiting the people living in Oak Bay.
Quicker action on important issues and a more responsive local government are what residents should expect from their council.
Densification
Densification, when approached strategically through the Official Community Plan, enriches our community.
I am committed to overseeing densification in a way that respects Oak Bay's character, while addressing the evolving needs of our residents.
This will ensure that our growth is sustainable and beneficial, creating a more vibrant and adaptable community for everyone, while safeguarding our Gerry Oak ecosystems and other sensitive ecosystems.
Fiscal Care
One of my priorities is ensuring responsible and transparent fiscal management for Oak Bay. With clarity and proper financial forecasting, we can ensure that every tax dollar is spent wisely, benefiting all residents.
Such an approach leads to more timely decisions and a stable financial future for our community allowing for proper investment.
Furthermore, being decisive and deliberate with our project management can minimize cost overrun and further setbacks on project completion.
Finally, keeping an emergency contingency fund is paramount to a healthy financial outlook.
